warrior help

i have an 01 warrior i replaced the stator in. the engine will turn over but not start. i started it by pulling it and popping the clutch and got it running. i only let it run due to not having an air filter. my question is for the few minutes i had it running it was breaking up real bad when i gave it gas. coud that be due to the no air filter. what could be causing the starting problem to. could the new stator be bad and cause the starting and breaking up?

The breaking up is from no air filter. Put the air filter in there and put the air box lid back on. Then try starting it. If it can be bumb started the stator is fine.
