The federal government is sending each and everyone of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan... and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, beer, and tattoos, since these are the only products still produced in the USA. please spend your tax rebate wisely.

Thank you for your help & please support the US.--

I did one better ,
I went to my local family owned  gun shop and ordered a S&W MP 15T ,  (AR-15) . There is a huge demand for them right now , $600 wont cover it all ,but helps. At the moment most manufacturers have a 2 month back log on production.
There , I stimulated the economy .

Also everyone needs to remember that this is a rebate check meaning that you will actually be paying this back to them with your 2008 taxes!!!!!!!!!

I have to disagree with the first statement.

If you spent your entire rebate check at Wal-Mart it doesn't all go to China. Only the wholesale cost of goods sold for products bought from Chinese based companies goes to China. The profits made on these Chinese products goes to Wal-Mart. The money is then used in the operation of the business and to pay their American employees. The same goes for any store or company selling products manufactured outside the US but based here in America.

Japanese auto makers have assembly plants, dealerships and service shops here in the US. With a little research I found out that in 2005, Toyota employed 29,135 workers in its U.S. product development, manufacturing, and sales and marketing operations, while an additional 74,060 workers were directly employed in new-vehicle, dealer-related operations. If I put my rebate check towards the purchase of a new Toyota I see that money going to America, not Japan.

The only way your rebate money spent is going directly to another country is if you travel there and spend it on their soil.

I think stats show that most people are just going to spend it on bills they already have which is not going to stimulate anything.  But who knows... I have no idea what I am going to spend it on.

That's not true. You don't have to pay them back.

http://www.buzzbrockway.com/?p=65
So are the rebate checks an advance on next year’s refund? Donny Shaw at Open Congress says no:

First, no, the rebate checks will not be taken out of the refund amount you receive in 2008. This is a misconception that probably stems from a CNN article that, earlier today, erroneously implied that the rebates would be borrowed from next year’s tax returns. The article has since been revised.

The bill works by reducing the tax code’s 10 percent bracket on the first $6,000 of taxable income to zero for 2008. That 10 percent of the first $6,000, $600, will come back to you as a check in advance, probably sometime in May. That check will basically be a “prebate” on a temporary tax cut that will be enacted next year. So, since the new zero percent tax on the first $6,000 of your income will have already been taken care of, when you go to file your taxes in 2008, everything will seem normal and you will be eligible for the same refund amount as always. The rest of your income will be taxed as usual.

Another good article about it.

Yeah, you are probably right. If everybody did that or simply put it in a savings account, it wouldn't stimulate anything.

I agree , I seen a random survey on tv .
With consumer confidence low and escalating cost of living , most said they'll either save it or use to pay for existing bills.

I think I'll buy a couple Cuban cigars (to keep some of the $ in Miami ) , then I'll send the rest to Cuba for the citizens to buy cell phones. I figure that way maybe they'll just call their relatives in Florida instead of floating up on our beaches. This way I keep some of the money here in the US,  and the rest that I send out of the country will actually SAVE us money by keeping some people OUT. Less refugees = less money needed for public assistance and welfare  Wink

I was thinking of donating mine to the Coast Guard so they can buy a water cannon to keep them off shore so they never get to claim "dry foot". Wink
