I was shopping aroung for a good all around GPS but there are so many to choose from i was wondering what would be the best application from an ATV on long trails in State & National parks and that wont get ruined if they get wet. Thanks to all who respond.Manny

SO there is no display of terrain, map, etc. It just shows how to get from waypoint to waypoint?
Thanks...

grizz is right, get one you can down load maps. while the basic ones are better than nothing (they work great in open water) actually seeing the trails make it 100% better. the arrow might point you in the right direction but the trails almost never go it a direct line to where you want to go. they let you see the route to take and will identify the main roads if you get turned around.

I have a Garmin 76 Map, you can download maps in it and it also has roads, lakes, rivers, etc. loaded from the factory and the screen is mid size. The bigger screen helps especially when you are trying to follow a coarse. I think they are like $350 at Wal-Mart.

Garmin 176 or if money is not an issue go for the 276 color. All the GPS you will ever need and RAM makes a great mount for your handle bars.

I got the new garmin 76c, collor mapping with new screen for better visability in the sun light. It works great, quad, truck, and my boat, it even floats if you drop it. Look at 4x4 books, gps city, etc. for the best price. I looked a short time back, they are just under $400. Good luck what ever you buy.

i have a garmin76 and i love it, but they didnt have color when i bought mine. if i was to get a new one i would deffinitely go with color. those lines are hard to see when you get older. can you make your bread crum trail a different color than the trails and roads, moose?

jjamesbar, I haven't tried that yet, I will now that you have asked me. All I know is I love the 76c, I have been using gps since they first came out after Desert Storm. Magellon was the first, these new units are much better and easier to use.

I just picked up a garmin emap deluxe, pretty nice, found it on ebay for 100.00, only has an 8mb data card, so i am going to upgrade that.
I have downloaded all kinds of maps for it, pretty sweet, nice large screen.
when going to WV for Hatfield-McCoy i am gonna have it hooked up to my notebook and let it track my trip progress on Microsoft Streets and Trips.

FYI, I have the Garmin 176 and although I am very happy with its features, I have recently had a lot of trouble with the unit shuting down while riding. Garmin finally admitted that the unit has fairly weak battery springs and terminals and cannot take the abuse of being mounted to the handle bars of an ATV or bicycle. The vibration weakens the springs and the batteries lose contact. Hard wiring the unit is the only solution. The 276c has an internal battery pack which should take the abuse better. Ramount makes a great handle bar mount for the 176/276
