ok so if any of you know anything about cams, you know that a cam with a centerline with a lot of overlap tends to have more power and a nasty(badass) sounding idle. so i was thinking, if my z400 has dual overhead cams, couldnt i just skip one of them back a tooth and make it have overlap and get free power? is this what the ever so popular yfz cam mod is? i cant belive i have never thought of this untill now... im sure there is something wrong with this idea otherwise everyone would do it... or would they... hmmmm

I never heard of doing that on anything other than a YFZ.

but why not is what im thinking? i know for sure that overlap tends to ad power as long as you dont have forced induction.... i may just go ahead and try it out, it couldnt hurt anything and wouldnt be too hard... i could start the next bigest mod for z400s lol i somehow doubt it but in theory i cant see a flaw in the idea...

the "cam mod" for the yfz was really not a secret what yamaha did was on the yfz and the wr450 was change the cam timing to make the throttle roll on power more predictable due to the broad range of riders the cam mod is you change the cam timing by 1 tooth or roll back the exhaust cam to 13 pins between dots instead of 14 the "mod" is the factory timing on the yf450f and most people buying the yz450f in yamaha eyes are advanced riders and can handle the snappy throttle responce if you go changing your cam timing on that z400 engine you will find that there will be no real gains you can get better gains by buying a set of cams like hot cams or yosh makes a nice set of cams for the z400
