What is a Scramble?
«
on:
March 11, 2008, 01:10:16 PM »
I just discovered this type of race on a flyer at a motosports shop.
I've also read a little about it on this forum, but I still have questions.
Is there a women's league?
What type of quad must you have? A sport or utility? Two-strokes allowed?
How do you signed up? Can anyone do it, or is there some type of membership?
I'm in Naples...where is the closest place I can go for this type of race?
How does it work? Meaning what factor declares the winner...finishing first at the checkered flag?
I read something about a transponder, how's that work?
I also read about a tag with your numbers, do you get those race day?
Any links with FAQs to learn more would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Check out

Is there a women's league?
They do have womens classes
What type of quad must you have? A sport or utility? Two-strokes allowed?
They have a ute and a sport class for women
2-strokes are fine
How do you signed up? Can anyone do it, or is there some type of membership?
You must join the Florida Trail Riders. It is $50 a year. Some races are sanctioned by the AMA. If you want to race these events you must join the AMA also. It is $39 a year.

You race on a closed course usually 7 to 11 miles long for 2 hours, whoever does the most laps wins.
I read something about a transponder, how's that work?
A transponder is like a sunpass. it is used for scoring. It cost $20
I also read about a tag with your numbers, do you get those race day?
You will need numbers for your quad. one in the front and one in the rear. you must have the correct color background that corresponds with your class. You can use and # from 1 to 999 as long as someone else in your class doesn''t have it. You can't have a number assigned until you are a FTR member.
Any links with FAQs to learn more would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Good Luck you will love it. Everyone at the FTR races are very friendly and helpfull. It is an atmosphere that you can't describe. Anything you need or any question you may have I guarantee you any stranger out there would go the extra mile to try and help you. See you at the races!!

Thanks so much for the quick and detailed replies. They are very helpful.
A few more questions...
A saw some pictures of a trail (don't know which trail), and it looked like you have to go thru some deep water, and also, some rocks. I ride a Banshee, and although I've put it thru some tests, I'd rather not go swimming with it. I'd rather take my Brute for that. My question is, for the most part, what are the trails like?
Excuse my ignorance, as I'm completely new to this, but are there pit areas, where you can refill with gas?
Ok, lastly, I need to buy plates for the numbers, correct? They give me the number at the race, which is like a sticker or something, then I put it on my plate?? Or do they hand you plate?
I can become a member on race day, correct?
Is the $20 transponder a keeper or a rental?
Does the winner get something, besides the satisfaction of being a winner?
Ok, so I'm almost ready to race, except I need a helmet, gloves, goggles, boots, a spark arrestor, plates?, and a kill switch....lmao....uh?? well, almost ready.
It sounds like fun, and I'm already nervous just thinking about it.
Thanks in advance for future replies!!!

the trails are uasally very dry if not a little damp if there is a water crossing uasally in myakka then there will be some path around it for the riders who dont want to go through it. they dont give you a number sticker when youi buy your membership instead of doing it at the race do it over the phone. then call and get your number they will tell you what color plate you need then go buy your numbers and letters. you quad also needs to be under 96 Db, the transponder is a one time buy pay 20 bucks and it is yours. uasally top 3 or 4 gets plaques pee-wees get metals.
jake
actually the next race is this weekend in pinetta.FL its a harescramble not a QS

You need to figure out what class you are going to run. Then go get some plastic plates the color of your background. Bring a magic marker to write the numbers and zip ties to mount them All they do is assign you a number. You don't get anything to put on the quad. Once you have your number then you can order custom plates.

Yes

Keeper

Trophy/Plaque

If you are in Naples, We have a spot out here where you can get a taste of what the tracks will be like. Shoot me a PM and I will take you out there sometime.

That is good to hear how you found out about this! Welcome to FUN!!
Some even join just to help put on the events as they get to ride a heck of a lot more!!
You should at least come to the Myakka City race end of this month to try it or spectate. Nah, you should try it!
And I have seen more than enough paper plates out there, so you can always get your real numberplate and numbers later.
