I am wanting to do some hunting for hogs, small game and spring turkey...

I am located in Miami, and am willing to travel out to Monroe Station to the west and up to J.W Corbett to the North...

Can anyone let me know any decent hunting land within my boundaries..

I have looked at some of these "guided hunts with dogs" and they want $150 or more for a meat hog, and some of them want $1500 for a turkey hunt..

I know Big Cypress' small game season, and spring turkey season, but is there a specified season for hogs??

I thought they were considered a nuisance and there was no season or limit,

Could someone please inform me..

Thanks,
Tony

Tony, you can hunt pigs in Big cypress as long as hunting season is open for deer. I have been going out there for 30 years and at one time there were so many pigs, that we had to fence in the camp to keep them from rooting the grass, however since the park has started introducing the Texas cougar, aka Florida Panther, the pig population is at 0. I have not seen a pig like in 5 or more years.......Good luck and remember to always stay safe.

I would like to meet some people who hunt in the area and could maybe show me around.. I dont plan on you giving me your spots, but i dont own a buggy, or airboat, so it seems kind of hard for me to get out to some places to hunt..

The only hunting vehicles, for say that i have are :

2004 Polaris ATP 500
2003 Kawasaki Prairie 360

I doubt they would make it very far out in the Cypress...

I live just north of Daytona Beach and we have several places here to hunt hogs. You can hunt Lake George WMA during small game for hogs (Nov23 till the end of march) I walked up on a bunch a few days ago.  Its about 4 hours from Ft. Lauderdale or so,  but its not so bad if you camp for the weekend. You cant hunt hogs all day if you dont mind doing some walking and flushing them out of the woods. Thats how I hunt them, I prefer to walk hunt over tree stand.

I agree ,
Hogs are for the most part extinct in most of the cypress .
Do us all a favor and hunt Texas Cougars aka Florida Panthers.
They've wiped out hogs and are doing a fine job on the deer herd.

ummm...... no! they throw you under the jail and leave you for death if you dang near look at one wrong. much less kill one. why would you want to kill one anyway? theyre cool animals.

theres a few places to hunt around. go to myfwc.com and look at the map of WMAs and see which ones are closest to you and then find their PDF brochure and read up on it. some of them you have to be drawn into to hunt and some are just open to everyone. you can even take a quad in some.  Grin

Hogs have no season if you are hunting on private land.   There is a season if you are hog hunting on WMA's.

You can go anywhere you want with on the Prairie. You really don't need anymore.

Anoriginal, where is the Prairie you are referring to ?

I have heard of some near Okeechobee, but heard you must own land there to hunt or even ride your ATV's

O ok.. I thought you were referring to the Praries out near Okeechobee..

I plan to use my Polaris more for hunting and the Kawasaki more for just riding and light mudding..

1 thing i need to do is have my snorkels looked at on the Kawi.. I dont like the fact that the pipe for the snorkel blocks access to the spark plug
