2003 suzuki z400. Started it the other day to ride. Rode it around for a few minutes. When I would give it full throttle it would bog out, but if I rolled into real slow it was fine. Then the bike cut off and now it wont start. I figured it was a fuel problem, but theres plenty of fuel in the carb. Put new plug in and it is getting great spark, but wont fire. Please give me some ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance,

Tony Moore

There is probably dirt or water in your tank. Same thing happened to me and I found out someone put crap in my tank.

Check the screen in the tank where the shut off is. That screen may be plugged up.

Drained and changed the gas. Nothing, same results. Even put some fuel in the cylinder and its still not firing. Could the bike have jumped timing or is there anything electrical that could cause this? I will go check all the lines though. Thanks guys and keep the suggestions coming.

I've seen this happen 3 times, it only happens to the 03-04 models, move the petcock to primary. That should make it work fine.

Dumb question, but did you clean the carb yet?

does try to crank. if so pull the plug and put your finger in the sparg plug hole then hit the button at the same time. see if it sucks your finger. if it does never mined. but if it doesnt somethings wrong. such as a valve is stuck open, conecting rod broke. you will probly have to pull the motor apart. write back

You need to remove the carb & disassemble & clean. If it starts but boggs out when you hit the gas you have a lean condition. Which means you are getting more air than fuel. It sounds like an obstruction in the carb.

try draining the float and then maybe pull start it with a truck or something,   i have a kfx 400 ( az400) and it would never start cold, the valve  clearance was out of wack so it would only be good enough to start warm. did you notice the bike has lost any low end power lately? if so the valves may be an issue. they can get screwed up real quick if dirt and sand get in the motor through the air cleaner, make sure the boot to the carb is on! thats what happened to me, and replace that 1/4 wide boot clamp with a big fat stainless one, it holds the boot on a lot better
