I would rather walk to California from my house in Florida than spend five minutes in the best hotel in New Yark.
I used to think the same way, but after staying in NYC for a few nights I don't. That place is awesome, everyone we came across was very nice, and courteous. The subway was a lot better than I thought it would be. Of course this was Manhattan, and we never went into the other boroughs, so I can't comment on them. I can't wait to go back. Only downside is they don't know how to cook breakfast. We finally went to 1 restaurant that served "home fries" and ordered them. They were served cold with all sorts of vegetables in them. On our last day we found out the breakfast buffett at the Marriott we stayed at had biscuits and gravy.

It has been some years since I visited NYC. Hopefully things have changed for the better, but the influx of New Yorkers hitting South Florida tells me probably not. I hate tall buildings and crowds.
My buddy goes to time square every year for new years eve, and swears I would love it and it is a great place..I tell him he needs to visit El Segundo and take a drive up the PCH. Different strokes for different folks..

I put that "darn new york drivers" part in there because I was kidding around with NYRaptor. I always tell him he drives agressive.
As far as going back home Rebel ss/t. I am pretty much planning on it, but one of the downers about Florida it seems is with the pay so incredibly low, once you arrive, you have to work and save for what feels like an eternity to be able to afford the cost of moving again. As of now, I plan on having my 3rd grader finish this year and try to move back this coming May. I moved here because I was sort of "duped" into it. My dad lived here and really wanted my son and I to move here from Co. because he was sick and lonely. He went on and on about how great the jobs were and the economy and bla bla bla. Turned out, he just told me whatever had to be said in order for me to move.
I'm glad I did move because I got to spend about 8 months with him before he died April 26th 2006. My son also got to know his Grandpa. We did a lot of fishing before he passed. But now he is gone and my boy and I are here all alone with the entire rest of my family back in Denver.
I'm not hating all of the Florida living. There are some great things about it. But when I finally get back to the rockies, I will then appreciate where I'm at a lot more than I used to. It will be sad to move away from a couple of real true friends but they have told me they wouldn't mind moving back to their home state also.

i thought this was cool from my aunt. this is not against florida in any way!!!!
it has to do with 9/11/01.
I am a New Yorker
I do not live in the five boroughs or on the Island or Upstate
I may live hundreds or thousands of miles away
Or I may live just over the GW Bridge
But I am a New Yorker

I am a New Yorker
Whatever took me out of New York:
Business, family or hating the cold
did not take New York out of me.
My accent may have faded and my pace may have slowed
But I am a New Yorker

I am a New Yorker
I was raised on Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Rockefeller Plaza,
The Yankees or the Mets (Giants or Dodgers)
Jones Beach, Coney Island, Rockaway Beach or one of the beaches
on the sound
I know that "THE END" means Montauk.
Because I am a New Yorker

I am a New Yorker
When I go on vacation, I never look up
Skyscrapers are something I take for granted
The Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty are part of me
Taxis and noise and subways and "get outa heah" don't rattle me
Because I am a New Yorker

People who have never been to New York have misunderstood me
My friends and family work in the industries, professions and
businesses that benefit all Americans
My firefighters died trying to save New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers
They died trying to save Americans and non-Americans
Because they! were New Yorkers.

buzzardman,
I totally understand where your coming from, I worked w/ a guy that grew up in Denver & he moved here about 10 yrs. ago & didn't like it but his wife did. he got divorced & moved back about a month ago, he always talked about CO., how it could be a little hot but you could drive up to the mountains & it would be snowing (pretty cool)
He worked for a company called Arvada Hardwood Floors but Home Depot bought that company & ruined it.
Anyways it's good that you & your son got to spend time w/ your father (priceless).
2 weeks after my friend moved back his sister passed away, so he was glad he seen her before that happened, he hadn't seen her in almost 15 yrs.
i'm gonna go check that place out someday, I've lived in Tampa all my life, don't know what it's like anyplace else.
As far as NYC, I'll keep my comments to myself, I do have a lot of friends from Long Is.(LK. Ronkonkomo), they so they'll never move back.
I like what Hank Jr. has to say about the place though (send me to hell or NYC, it'd be about the same to me)

Wherever we live, whatever we do, whoever we are
There are New Yorkers in every state and every city of this nation
We will not abando! n our city
We will not abandon our brothers and sisters
We will not abandon the beauty, creativity and diversity that New York represents
Because we are New Yorkers
And we are proud to be New Yorkers

I can try to make it, it is best on a weekday, just don't care for that place to much, it's OK on a dirt bike but the trails are a little tight
& I can't find a place to get my quads into 5th gear, lucky to get in 4th, more like 2nd,3rd,2nd,3rd,2nd,3rd.
I'll see what my work schedule is like, there are a few good places there & always the pit to play around in.
Thanks for askin.

I'd just as soon stay home
just send me to hell or New York City
it would be about the same to me
I've got wild honey trees & crazy little weeds
growin around my shack
These dusty roads ain't streets of gold
But I'm happy right were I'm at.
