The Polk County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) appointed an OHV Park Advisory Committee in January 2007. The committee includes (among others) 2 FTR members (Kerri Chambers and Jack Terrell), 2 other OHV enthusiasts, 2 motorcycle dealers (Honda of Winter Haven, SKY Powersports), plus other interested parties. The committee has met three times (February 19, March 12 and April 16). Polk County sent 3 representatives (Commissioner Randy Wilkinson, Mike Callender with Leisure Services Division, and Charlie Fountain with Sheriff's Department) to the National Association of OHV Program Administrators conference (March 19-23) in West Virginia. The presentation you saw on the Polk County's TV network was made at the April 18 BoCC meeting. At that meeting the committee presented an update of its activities and the BoCC approved a resolution in favor of an OHV park in Polk County and authorized the committee and the Leisure Services Division to enter into discussions with phosphate industry officials about possible land available for an OHV park. We hope to have a meeting with Mosaic in May 2007. It is the goal of the committee to have a world-class OHV park in Polk County. Stay tuned for more developments.

This has been in the works for a few years. Randy Wilkinson has been great working with the OHV community and helps us in anyway he can. I just wish more counties would do something like Polk.

   Polk County is coming up in the world.Maybe I should move there.
