My daughter apparently left gum in her pocket when I washed the coloreds. Now there is gum that went through the wash and dryer stuck to 3 of my BRAND NEW ($#@!@#) polo style shirts.
What do I use to get the gum out?
My wife says to use goof off but thats basically paint thinner. There has to be some old fashened remedy to fix this.

There is some stuff you can buy it's called Goo Gone I bought it at Kmart in the paint isle..works on tape and glue, anything that is adhesive so it should work on the Gum. I also have a bottle of Adhesive Remover made by Duck it says on the bottle it removes Gum but don't use on Fine fabrics or furniture. Old fashion is Ice or Peanut butter but I think the peanut butter would be kinda messy.

Well, I am NOT a lady, But I would try the ice. Thats what good ole MOM always used anyway. Possibly Lestoil, my mom used that for tough stains and stuff. Good luck  |

Scissors, thats how to get it out of hair.  Now you have some fancy ridin duds. |

That'll teach her, I also heard ice will work. Make sure theres not any more left in the dryer, happened to me before w/ a lumber crayon, it made a mess in the dryer & all over the clothes. |

Try dry ice or liquid nitrogen. |

Run down to the pound and get your kids a dog. I've found they are the best stain lifters around.

if you use WD40 you will probably end up with a grease stain from that. If you do, use regular toothpaste, not the whitening kind and an old toothbrush and scrub the oilstain out.

Maybe this is a lesson not to buy Polo shirts Wd-40, also know an miracle roof tar remover. Sounds like a bad idea for gum on cloths, but I'll bet it would work better than the liquid nitrogen. |

Maybe this is a lesson not to buy Polo shirts I read that too - for if you have gum stuck to the bottom of your shoe. I would not do that on clothes like someone else said it will leave a residue on the shirt. I was going to suggest that mineral spirits will probably not hurt clothes (I have used it on soft leather boots with no issue) that removes mastic (not sure of the spelling) from shirts..don't use a lot of it. I would even maybe try nail polish remove the acetone might eat it Here I pulled this off the internet:Instead you might want to try some of Mother Nature’s chewing gum removal tips. These are both environmentally friendly and in addition most of the ingredients are found right in your own home. If you discover chewing gum in your carpet, you can place a few ice cubes in a plastic bag. A small sandwich bag works well for chewing gum removal. After placing the ice cubed filled bag on the gum, you wait. The waiting is really the hardest part of the process. Once the ice has taken hold of the chewing gum and frozen it, you can chip it away. This method works very well on fabrics as well. Another approach to taking gum off of clothing is a bit more radical. Depending on the material you are working with, gasoline works to dissolve the gum. This can work effectively for heavier fabrics. You do need to be mindful of the fact that the gasoline is highly flammable, and washing the item immediately after removing the gum is imperative. Probably the worst place for chewing gum to appear is in someone’s hair. If it’s your hair it can be a horrifying experience. But before you get the scissors and give yourself a new hairdo, visit your kitchen. There are two things in your kitchen that can help you become gum free and neither has a sharp edge. Peanut butter actually removes gum from hair. Granted it’s a messy chewing gum removal method but if the choice is between losing your hair or smelly a bit nutty, most people will opt for the latter. You simply apply a generous amount of peanut butter to the hair that is surrounding the gum, and massage. This takes time but it does work. The same chewing gum removal method works for salad oil. This is a bit more slippery and requires patience, but it will take the gum out of your hair. Naturally you’ll want to shampoo your hair several times after using a kitchen method of gum removal. Gum can be removed from almost anything it becomes stuck to. They main key to remember is with a bit of work and patience your hair, your furniture or your clothing will be good as new. |

Well, not a lady but my wife suggested that you turn those shirts into mudding shirts and buy new ones!! Once they have been washed the gum is set in and well..... time for new duds  |

goof off should work. Goof off will work as will charcoal fluid, and paint thinner. The trick if your using a solvent like those is you want one that is oily.
