Would like any feedback anybody may have.

My husband's birthday is March, and he is some desperate need of tires.  He owns a Honda Rancher 400 4x4 ES, 2005.
I am also interested in buying rims too, that way just can keep the orginal set.  We ride some trails sometimes that have some serious mud, and his stock tires just don't cut it.  Alot of people tell me that ITP's are good, and other suggestions.

Thanks, appreciate your input .....

I ahve a Foreman (basically a Rancher but 500cc). I have 26" ITP Mud Lites on it. They work great in almost everything except for sand. They are'nt horrible in sand but there are better tires. My bike is 2WD and they carry me threw most everything. They are good tires on the trails. I ridden them over 80 miles out at river ranch and they do exceptional.

The Mud Bugs are also great tires. The 589's are also very good all-around tires. Basically, any tire is going to have it's weak points. Mud tires are usually not that great in sand. Mine will pull me up any sand hill I point it at, they just digg a little more than a regular all-terrain type tire. But basic trail riding and hitting the mud, they do great.

I got the Mud-Lites because they were one of the cheapest and the lightest weight tire out there. I still have plenty of power with the 26"s.

Its only 475cc

I still have plenty of power with the 26"s.

It did slow it down from its already slowness

Power...you will always be able to spin 2wd, Your bike with 4wd would have trouble spinning all 4 26" mud lites in deep mud

Thats a problem people have, not having the power in the deep mud to spin the meaty tires...something to think about.... but you will still go through more mud even if you lose power with the added traction

well, if you want to put it that way, there aint no bikes that are correct with their name.

as for power, you will be able to spin them fine.

Thanks for info, does anyone known a good place to buy or a good web-site?  Since I am not in a rush, have about a month, don't mind having them shipped, if that's the case.....

Anyways, I believe http://www.NTWOnline.com might sell atv tires still. Check there, they are usually really cheap.

And yes, You put bigger than stock tires on ANY bike ever produced, you will lose some power whether it's noticable or not. My Foreman is a 5sp manual so even in the deepest mud, 1st gear will alwas spin them. However, 1st gear is extremely low so I dont expect to pull out of much unless I'm in 2nd. Still spin them pretty well though.

Okay, hate to sound dumb, just want best advise.  I think I have it narrowed down to ITP 589.  Found a web-site (see making progress).

Question:
I believe, w/o going outside to look, but his tires are 25x8x12/front  25x10x12 back.....

I see alot of the tire kits, are selling the 26" tires, don't want too big of a tire.  Any recommendations on size of tire should get....

Man who would know that this would be such a learning experience.....lol

you almost have to get 26" tires for a 12 inch rim. it should pull them fine but i havent seen one with them yet. is his bike custom like air filter, jet kit, exhaust? if it is, then it will be fine. were gonna get 26" tires anyway. it will lose as lil power but not much id say.

Dont ever buy less than 26" if your going to get new tires. Alot of people make this mistake.

If you look at the specs for almost ANY utility atv tire(specifically tires like ITP's), all tires 26" and taller will come with about 1/4 more tread deapth than a 25" or smaller tire. Read the tread depth specs on the 589's in a 25" and a 26". I gurantee the 26" will have more tread. Just my .02 cents though!

The 589's are good tires and should last quite a while on his bike.
