I bought a 2000 honda 400ex yesterday. I was draning the oil lastnight and i put it all back together. i Went riding on the back of my friends atv. woke up this morning and forgot to put oil back in it. i was riding it. and it lost aloooot of power. It was really hot then i herd all my rods and things started  knocking. I went back to the truck after i realized what had happened and put oil in it. Then i ran it for a while idiling. and seemed to be doing all good again but im getting this loud ticking noise.  I dont kno what to do.  Should i buy the 417 kit and just get the whole top end rebuilt? run it till it dont run nomore? i really dont kno. Help please

I would rebuild the whole motor, top and bottom. What wasn't destroyed by the excessive heat is probably very weak. If you don't replace everything I would be worried about the parts that weren't replaced coming a part. That would totly waste the money that was just spent and ruin all the work that was just done.

Thats got nothing to do with this problem, your bikes probably need a valve adjustment.

Yeah, that sucks. Whole thing needs to be rebuilt. I would just try to find a used engine on ebay and drop it in. Lot less hassle.

KX250 is running good btw, new spark plug and it cranks up 1st kick with no starter fluid
