WELL I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THE HONDA DEALER IN TENNESSEE. HE SAYS WHEN I COME UP THERE TO BUY MY ATV'S, THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY GOING TO TACK ON THE FLORIDA SALES TAXES. THEN THEY SAY HONDA FINANCING WILL FORWARD THE MONEY DOWN TO THE CRIMINAL POLITICIANS IN FLORIDA. I LIVE 15 MINUTES FROM ALABAMA AND DO ALL MY RIDING IN ALABAMA. THERE IS NOWHERE AROUND MY HOUSE TO RIDE. BILLY BOB DOWN THE ROAD IN ALABAMA GETS HIS ATVS FOR A THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS. THATS B.S. ANYBODY NO IF THIS INFO I WAS GIVEN BY THE SALESMAN IS CORRECT? HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW FLORIDA HAD A TITLE LAW TILL I TOLD HIM. I DO'NT MIND PAYING A TITLE FEE. I DO'NT EVEN WANT TO BUY THEM NOW, JUST BECAUSE OF THE FACT. I FEEL LIKE I AM GETTING RIPPED OFF. HOW CAN I GET AROUND THIS?

Try getting a P.O. Box in Alabama.  If you have a trusted friend use their address as your permanent address.  Then relocate to Florida once all is said and done.

Unless you actually use a residence in AL, you will have to pay sales tax.  There is no way of getting around it! Im a business director for a large chain of auto dealers. A quad is a vessel just like a car. If titled in Fl, you pay Fl tax! Period!!!!!!!! And it shouldnt be $1000 dollars more! 6% tax on around $6000 is only $360 bucks plus titling fees.
Sorry!

It's 7% in GA/AL and there's also some states with state income taxes. So, you're not screwed.

IS IT A KNOWN FACT THAT THE DEALERSHIP IN TENN. WILL HIT ME UP FOR THE FLORIDA SALES TAX AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE? OR AM I EXPECTED TO COME DOWN TO THE TAX COLLECTOR AND FORK  OVER SOME BONUS MONEY TO THEM MYSELF TO HELP PAY FOR ALL OF THEIR MONEY MISMANAGEMENT PROBLEMS. IF I AM SUPPOSED TO COME PAY MYSELF, BUT DO NOT, WHAT WILL BE DONE? IF I AM NOT RIDING IT IN FLORIDA, IS THERE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT?

Ida, I know several people who did this a couple of years ago went out of state and bought atv's, several of them recently got letters from Florida about paying sales tax and penalties, I know one was the Honda dealer in Miss. and the others was the Polaris dealer in Tenn. that I don't hink is in buisness any more. Something to think about is the dealers out of state who are doing buisness like this in large volumes are not the one's you are going to go to for service. You have to think about the service or warranty work after the sale.

I had a friend who did this and by the time he paid his gas and motel, food to go out of state and do the deal who could have gotten one locally and had got good service afterwards from his local dealer.

The only way to possibly get around this is to pay the total in cash & you will walk out with the title. If you finance it, you will get stuck.

dont you pay the state tax on the purchase if you are actually standing in that state at time of purchase? if this was an over the phone/web deal I think that they waive the tax?

MY LOCAL DEALER HERE WANTS OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS MORE FOR THE SAME MODEL ATV AND THATS NOT INCLUDING THE FLORIDA SALES TAX HE WILL WANT. WITH THE AMOUNT I WAS APPROVED THROUGH HONDA, I CAN BUY TWO ATVS IN TENNESSEE AT THE OUTLET DEALER IN CHATTANOGA. IF I BOUGHT HERE AT THEIR FL. RETAIL PLUS TAX, ONE ATV WILL COST ME 1000 DOLLARS LESS THAN THE TWO IN TENN. ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT IS THINKING ABOUT BUYING A HONDA ATV, YOU REALLY OUT TO CHECK OUT SOUTHERN HONDA POWERSPORTS WEBSITE. THEY BLOW ALL OTHER HONDA DEALERS AWAY. THE DEALER HERE GOT PISSED OFF WHEN I EVEN BROUGHT THEIR NAME UP. HE TRIED TO GIVE ME SOME RUN AROUND ABOUT HOW IT WAS A BAD IDEA TO BUY FROM THEM.                     IF I AM RIDING IN ALABAMA, AND DO NOT HAVE A FLORIDA TITLE STICKER ON MY ATV, WILL I GET IN TROUBLE?

IT WILL COST ME LESS THAN A HUNDRED BUCKS TO DRIVE TO TENN. TO PICK THEM UP, AND CAN ALL BE DONE IN ONE DAY. WELL WORTH THE DRIVE  COMPARED TO LOCAL DEAL.  IF I EVER NEED WARRANTY SERVICE, DO I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM? I WOULDNT THINK I WOULD HAVE TO. WHAT IF I DID BUY IT HERE AND MOVED TO CALIFORNIA, THEN NEEDED SERVICE?

You don't have to have it serviced at the dealer you bought it from, but why should your shop care how good a job they do if you didnt even care to support them and buy the quad there? That shop hires people in your community and pays taxes for the roads you drive on. Yes, it is more money, but Southern Honda only wants your money, they don't care what you do after the sale. If you have such a problem paying taxes to the State of Florida that provides you with a great life without state income taxes, then move to Alabama.

THE TAX WHEN I BUY SOMETHING IN A STORE ,HERE IN FLORIDA,  IS 10 PERCENT. 10 CENTS FOR EVERY DOLLAR. DOES THE 6 PERCENT YOU QUOTED APPLY TO THE PURCHASE OF MOTOR VEHICLES?

It sounds like the county that you live in is screwing everyone if the tax in that county is 10%. The state sales tax is 6% so if your county is 10% then the other 4% is going to your county. Most counties have aroung 6-1/2% to 7-1/2% sales tax. I do not know of any county that has 10%.

Now, I sale cars and the way we have to charge sales tax is by the county that each customer actually lives in. Now the county tax is only for the first $5,000 of the purchase and then the rest goes back to the original 6%, which is the state tax. Now with someone that lives in any other state, we have to find out what that states sales tax is and charge that amount and then see if that state is retro back with Florida. We also give them a piece of paper that shows how much tax they paid in Florida. So with you living in Florida you will have to pay sales tax in Florida. If the other state collects the tax then they should give you a letter saying how much taxes they collected. By registering your quads they are also easier to locate if they ever get stolen.

This would be correct. Look at it this way. If you purchased a gallon of milk from Winn-Dixie and got home to find out that it was spoiled, would you take it back to Winn- Dixie or to the Convenience store just down the road. I don't think anyone on here would take it to the convenience store.

you might as well buy your quad here , because if you bring it in for service and there are some issues with workmanship etc. you will have a bit more recourse. I think thats worth a couple hundred bucks in tax.

exactly what I was going to say Paul. You might be able to put it off, but when you get a Florida title you're going to get stuck with the taxes and title fees.

SO I GUESS THAT MEANS THAT ANYONE THAT BUYS A ATV AND MOVES, IS PRETTY MUCH SCREWED BY THEIR NEW LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES THEIR WARRANTY COVERED ATV. THE DEALER  DOES STILL GET REIMBURSED FOR WHATEVER WARRANTY LABOR OR PARTS THAT ARE REQUIRED DO'NT THEY? JUST BECAUSE I DO'NT PAY THEM A 1000 BUCKS OR MORE FOR THE EXACT SAME ATV SOMEBODY HAS 7 HOURS AWAY? AS FOR THE DEALER HELPING MY COMMUNITY, I LIVE OVER A HOUR AWAY FROM THE CLOSEST DEALER. THE DO'NT DO JACK SH** FOR MY COMMUNITY. THE COUNTY I WAS REFERING TO THE TAXES, BAY COUNTY, SPECIFICALLY PANAMA CITY BEACH. I WORK IN A RESTAURANT AND SEE 10 PERCENT TAX ON EVERY CHECK I MAKE. IF A DEALERSHIP GIVES ME BAD SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY, I WILL TAKE IT BACK TO THEM OVER AND OVER AND OVER TILL I AM SATISFIED OTHERWISE I WOULD CONTACT CORPORATE AND FILE MY CLAIM AND REQUEST A REFUND AND RETURN MERCHANDISE, SO I DONT THINK THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WANTS TO MESS WITH ME JUST BECAUSE I DO'NT PAY THEIR OVERINFLATED PRICES THAT HELP PAY FOR THEIR NEW 2007 BIG DOG, AND THEIR HUMMER AND THEIR BEACHHOUSE, AND THEIR TRIP TO STURGIS.

DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE THAT ALL I WILL HAVE TO PAY IS 6 PERCENT IN TAX? THAT WOULD NOT BE AS BAD AS THE 10 THAT I WAS EXPECTING TO PAY. I AM DEFINETLY NOT BUYING FROM A LOCAL DEALER THOUGH. GOOD OLE BAY COUNTY THAT CHARGES 10 PERCENT TAX, WOULD NOT EVEN PAVE OUR DIRT ROAD TWO BLOCKS FROM THE BEACH IN PANAMA CITY FLORIDA UNLESS EVERY PROPERTY OWNER ON THE STREET AGREED TO PAY 3/4THS THE COST OF PAVING. THIS IS PANAMA CITY BEACH, WHICH IS BOOMING RIGHT NOW BIG TIME WITH MONEY. THEY REPAVED AND GAVE BICYCLE SIDEWALKS ON THE OTHER SIDE ON GRAND LAGOON TO THOSE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY ARE LOADED WITH CASH. I THINK MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER LIVES OVER THERE. WHY DOES'NT THE GOOD OLE STATE OF FLORIDA DO SOMETHING ABOUT HOME INSURANCE COMPANIES THAT ARE PRICE GOUGEING HOME OWNERS? EVERYONE IN THE STATE HAS TO PAY FOR A FEW SELECT OCEAN FRONT COUNTIES THAT GET HIT BY STORMS. AND WE ARE PAYING FOR THE PEOPLE IN LOUISIANA.

What you don't understand is the local dealer can REFUSE to work on your quad. ( NOT SAYING THAT THEY WILL BUT THEY CAN )They do not have to do warranty work if they do not want TO. All they have to say is you were rude to them and they do not want your business. Another thing is that they can take your quad in service, but they will put one of their own customers quads ahead of yours. Then their customers are riding while your quad is still at their shop. People should think about customer service when they purchase anything. Now refer back to my Milk question. If you purchased a gallon of milk at Winn Dixie and when you got home you found out that it was spoiled, would you take it back to winn dixie or to the Jiffy store just up the road thats closer then winn dixie.
