I am curious as to why someone would do all this work and still use the spongy 21 year old brake lines? Mine were horrible so I switched them to braided stainless steel.

Mr. Bones, where did you get braided stainless lines for your R. I have an 85 and have not seen them. Did you have them made? Thanks.

No I didn't have them made, I just bought a universal one. It was a 45" for the front. You then add an inch on each end for the fittings. It fits perfectly as I have 1 1/8" CR High Renthal Fatbar handlebars with the adapter mounts. If you have lower bars you would probably use a 43". Check ebay for cheap lines. Mine was $15 shipped. Search for 'Goodridge Brake Line'. You'll have to buy the fittings at Dennis Kirk or somewhere like that. They cost $10 each and you need two, 10mm type.
As for the back, I bought a premaid one for an '86 TRX250R. It fits but I had to run it forward off the master cylinder and loop it back towards the caliper. An ideal length would be an inch or two shorter, but it works fine and is easy find as everybody sells one of those. The ATC '85 rear caliper is mounted in a different position than the TRX. The TRX is an inch or two further back as it mounts differently. That's the only reason the line is a little long. I think the swingarm is very close in length. A 400EX line might work better as I've read the swingarm is 1 inch shorter, but I'm not sure. My whole rear brake system was missing when I bought the trike, so I just did a little guess work.

Stop hating Speed. That bike is nasty, plus you just need to spend about 3 hours and 45 minutes to clean like that after you get it dirty from a day of riding....

I don't hate it. Looks great. But why spend that kind of $$$ on a bike that you would have to spend 3-4 hrs cleaning it after every ride?? Waste of time and money IMHO.
