1)an '04 without lights "might" need a resistor kit.

2)an '04 will prolly need a decompression plug:
http://www.store.dirtfiendracing.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=31

3)18 inch rear tires...  put a 15 tooth front sprocket on

4)Pull the baffle out of the eXhaust, remove the airbox lid
   and jet up some.

5)ALWAYS warm the motor up Before you rag on it!!! Let the oil get
   good and circulated.

That's a start right?!

The stock decompression plug is just a junk piece of plastic.

With the K&N I would run an outerwear 4 sho'
Jetting...  pilot- STOCK,  needle-???   main- 170

Resistor kit info:
http://atv.off-road.com/atv/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=191591

It is 'designed' not to start in gear.

Stock gearing is 14T(front) and 38T(rear)

You're welcome,
Dano

I have CR double high with bar adapters(I use stock stem).

My bike also can start in any gear... I removed the
"lights/on-off/start button" control pod. I use a dirt bike
kill switch to start my quad.

Good Luck.

P.S.
The pic has Elka's on it, but now I have Fox shocks.

Thanks man.  It's an '05 buuuuut... this year I replaced the frame
and the motor/electrics are off a brand new '06. So we call it an
'05 and a half  OR  a little less than an '06 Wink  as a joke.
