THIS IS NOT WHAT IM COMPLANIN ABOUT.IM SURE THAT THE COUNTY CALLS THESE LANDS BY THESE NAMES BECAUSE OF CERTON TAX REASONS AND STUFF,BUT WHEN THE MONEY IS RIGHT IT MAGICLY TURNS INTO HOUSING DEVELIPMENTS AND STRIP MALLS OR F.P.L POWER PLANTS.SO DONT GET ME WRONG IM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT HAVING ANYWHRE TO RIDE I STILL GOT PLENTY.IT HELPS WHEN YOU DONT TELL THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT THEM.IM COMPLAINING ABOUT ALL THE DIRT BAG POLITITIONS THAT MAKE IT LOOK LIKE PALM BEACH COUNTY IS CONSERVING LAND,BUT ALL THERE DOING IS WAITNG FOR THE RIGHT PRICE.ALSO MR SHERIEF PLEASE DONT ACT LIKE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.KEEP DOING YOUR JOB,BUT DONT TELL ME HOW YOUR PROTECTONG ENDANGERD OR SPECIAL LAND.ALL YOUR DOING IS STOPING TRESSPASSING AND THATS FINE.I GUESS WAHT IM SAYING IS I CANT BELEAVE WHAT PALM BEACH IS TURING INTO. GROWING UP HERE MY WHOLE LIFE IT SEEMS LIKE THE MONEY AND THE YUPPYS GET WHAT EVER THEY WANT.NOT THAT ANYBODY CARES.

Palm Beach County has approximately 45,000 acreas of
county owned
natural areas. These areas are managed by PBC Environmental Resource Management and are patrolled by us.
Most of these areas are mandated for use as filter marshes for water supplies, such as the water catchment area and the Loxahatchee River. They also are mandated to sustain wildlife and endangered species.
If you've seen the yellow county signs along Okeechobee Blvd near Target, they explain a land use change in which approximately 250 acres of natural area will be swapped for approximately 600 acres of prime woodlands and marsh area just north of that location. The 600 acres is currently owned by a developer. Once swapped, the 600 acres will become part of the Pond Cypress Natural Area, and the 250 acres will be developed. Natural area is being gained, not lost.
In addition, the 250 acres to be developed is in very poor condition. Also known as the "Okeechobee Mud Flats," this area was an off-road haven during the 80s and 90s. Full of trash, dumped vehicles and no vegetation, malalucca trees took it over and drained most of the water from the area.
As always, your entitled to your views. I can't comment on state and federal preserves, only county ones. Sadly, I agree, there is far to much growth here and pretty soon, the only woods left here will be the areas I patrol.

Hello Deputy. I was wondering if they will allow quads into Corbitt any time soon, if you have knowledge of such. They already allow trucks, but I wanted to know if they would allow some of the smaller trails to be used by ATV riders.

MachineDog,
I haven't heard anything new from the wildlife officers I talk to. If I hear anything I'll pass it along.....Check with FWC, as they manage the Corbett WMA.

Was there ever ATV activity allowed in Corbitt? If so why did the rules change and the Atv's were excluded. I dont see ATV having as much enviromental impact as a 3 ton buggy or track buggy running through there.

ive bin hunting out at corbit for the last twenty years and they have never let quads out there.i dont think they ever will because theres just to many people that have them and the area is pretty good hunting area.just take a look at holy lands.there aint no way you can hunt with that stuff going on.also you could not ride out ther but a few months a year.the water is to deep the rest of year. im in about 3 to5 ft deep most of the time on my swamp buggy.plus with buggys we can stay on the main trails and dont have to make new trails to get around the water.hey p.b.s.o i must say that you do have a sweeet job.i just hope that theres some land left in a few years for you kick me out of.and dont forget without people breaking the law you would get bored riding all day.so have fun and take it easy on the good ole boys just having some fun.p.s are all those big pigs still out under the power lines in the okeechobee mud falts.:} man i miss those days.best huntin around big dear big pigs.anyway have a good day at you super hard job.man that must be nice:}

I agree with you matt.Glad to see not everyone feels the need to brown nose these deputies. They got the gravy job .Seems like the sherrif gets anything he wants and the county just ups the budget for him.Speed boats ,4x4 trucks, horses, helicopters, and all by an old method of collection some used to call extortion. They also get lots of perks that they dont wanna mention. They justify the chasin 4 wheelers by sayin that land is being destroyed.redundant laws are unnecessary. We already have laws against destroying and vandalizing private property. Also if they say it is unsafe for us to drive on the roads ,I have to ask are mopeds and those little scooters safer? They are legal. The diference is the manufacterers of those machines spent more money on lobbiests and ......oh yeah bribes. It all comes down to money so our politicians need to start lookin at the money the atv industry is generating .

Don't mean to sound like a pr!ck but who told you this, the SFWMD? With all due respect to the dep, PBC gov officials w/ local law enforcement are misinformed. Forget about a place to ride there. Don't take it personal dep.
The SFWMD are so full of it, those are the MF that are causing more damage to our environment. Heard of the "red tide" in the west coast. Who do you think caused that. Wake up people, putting the issue of legal areas a side, this govenor appointed agency needs to change. These MF are appointed by the other MF Jeb Bush.

Thrumud,
SFWMD has little connection to the areas I mentioned. In addition, we receive training concerning various environmental and security issues regarding water suppiles. In support of Homeland Security, we patrol well sites and waterways that provide the drinking water for the county. I don't deal in politics, I deal in facts....The areas surrounding these wells and various water supply points need to be protected from the threat of attack by contamination/poison and preserved so the filter marshes can help purify the water. These are simple facts...I know everyone is concerned about riding areas, but my job is to look at the big picture. In this case, I think drinking water takes precedence.

Speaking of riding areas, every off-roader in PBC should be suggesting to the county commissioners that the Mecca Farms property next to the Corbett WMA should be turned into an OHV & Skateboard Park. There is approx. 2000 acres of county owned land available, now that Scripps has been relocated. More effort needs to go into aquiring riding areas than complaining about the lack of them. The time is NOW to act on Mecca Farms.....Otherwise, it will be lost to development.....If that happens, we all lose......

I recommend riders from PBC to show up at the OHV Advisroy meeting in Ft Myers Sept 28th. Showing up at this meeting could mean your first step to an OHV park. This meeting concerns counties from central Florida & south Florida. Show up and ask the committee to hold a meeting in your county.

HI PBSO,Hey I have a quick question about the well points.when i used to go out there i seen these all over in what you call the okeechobbe mud flats on the east side.I was fishing in the canal that goes around the water catchments area one day.than a special operations officer from west palm beach pulled up to talk to me.he told me about the worry of the water after 9/11.so they were trying to keep everybody out of there.so we talked for a while and I left.i have always wondered about the theory of them being worried about the water out there when it is the same water running into west palm beach near okeechobee blvd.which is drinking water for west palm beach. now here's my question.what is being done to keep anyone from throwing something out of there car or from the side walk or whatever.i understand about the water and the concern for you watching it. are they also watching out for this in the public areas .this has noting to do with atvs or riding areas.i just have always thought about that since he told me .anyway thanks again.see ya

Its a ruse.Whenever a politician or a deputy cant answer a reasonable queston with anything better it is protecting us from terrorists.Stock answer that seems to cover all the violations of constitutional rights these days. Also if you dont back off you are unpatriotic.the same water runs right by the dump then over to west palm water supply. So if you ride out there you have ruined the water. Some of these deputies are actually thinking they are being honest to us,but they are not seeing the real big picture. In other words either they bought the lie or they are ignorant to "the big picture"

The well points are the biggest concern. They are used during droughts and when the water table is low....If you recall earlier in the year, the water in WPB tasted bad. Most places were serving bottled water because of it. They corrected the problem using the wells. I can't comment much on the canal, as I'm not sure how they process that. I see enough dead fish floating in it though. As for sbripple, he's entitled to his opinion. He claims to have met me, although I have no idea who he is. sbripple, you've claimed to have met me. I think I was referred to as "Rambo." Those I have met, ticketed and arrested on this website know better. I'm open to meeting with you to discuss this further and clear up any misunderstandings. Feel free to PM, put it on the forum, or call PBSO at (561) 688-3000 and leave a message.....D/S J. Gibson # 4091 PBSO Wildlands Unit.

Outstanding idea. We were just talking about Mecca site the other day. The county could derive beaucoup revenue by charging ATVs to ride there. Not to tick off any dirtbikers but there are people living on the south side that would probably scream at their noise.
ATTENTION EVERYONE: CONTACT YOUR COUNTY COMMISSIONER! NOW! SERIOUSLY!

I just love it when a Police Officer misspells stuff especially when there is a spell check tab there. It is target not taget, once not onced, Vegetation not Vegitation, Potato not Potatoe there Chief or Chef
