My son and I rode Everglades WMA last night.  What an awesome ride we had.  There were brush fires out there that made an eerie orange glow across the horizon.  You could see the flames from the levee and were pretty impressive as we got closer.  While we were cruising along one of the trails a deer jumped out in front of us and ran ahead for about 15 seconds.  Seemed he liked the trail as much as we did.  For anybody who's never done it, you should try riding out there at night.  Beats the blast furnace feel of a late spring day.  Just remember to take a flashlight and some bug spray (bugs were not bad at all... just a slight annoyance).  Don't worry about being out there alone.  There had to be at least 30-40 other riders riding out there last night.  I've never been out there at night that there wasn't plenty of others riding as well.

Probably wasn't a brush fire. They burn the sugar cane fields to get rid of the cane.. or something like that I'm not sure why they burn it but they do.

Definitely not sugar cane.  The cane fields are well to the north.  These fires were on the south side of the levee in the Everglades WMA.  I've lived in this area for 25 years and I know where the cane fields are and I've been going to Holeylands for the last 7 years.  There's nothing but sawgrass south of the levee until you get to I-75.

Yeah, saw it on the news yesterday after I posted. That would've been a hassle to drive through that smoke on US27, some MAJOR fog lights.

When you get out there, you just have to pay attention to what's going on around you.  If you pull up and there are 30 people standing around and nobody has a quad, maybe you might want to look on the other side of the road or if you don't see any riders, just turn around and leave.  That being said, I have never been out there at night when there weren't plenty of other people out there riding too.  There are idiots everywhere.  You can get jacked just walking to your car at the mall.  Definitely don't go by yourself, though, unless you enjoy some solitude out in the middle of nowhere.   Shocked Wink

i went out there for the first time this weekend and had a great time, i havent been on a night ride in a long time, since they stoped night riding in Ocala, so it was pretty cool to ride at night again. As far as people bothering you, you have your occasional a$$holes but you get that everywhere for the most part everybody is friendly, everybody is there to ride and have a good time. As for the ravers this weekend they didnt bother anybody they stayed in there little section and raved for 2 days str8. I enjoyed it enough where i will do it again on a regular basis, and by the way its legal to ride unlike lost lake, just need to have lights if you ride at night( they will give you a ticket)
