The first thing I would do is buy a 2004 clutch cover. I don't know if you are aware iof the problem with the 05 and 06 Z400/KFX400/DVX400. They change the clutch cover material to magneseum. The 2004 cover is aluminum. The woater from the coolant corodes away the magneseum cover. Eventually mixing the oil and coolant and causine engine damage. Not to mention the damage to the cooling system from all the metal fragments flowinf throught it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but here is a link to Z400 Central.

yea that what  i was talkin about . the way i look at it  ill  let them be the one to fix it  till they  give me a recal notice im not changin it and with the stuff ive done to it it ont take  a hour to put it back to factory. so they made the mistake they will  get the new motor if it comes down to it

In my opinion that is the WRONG thing to do. I would buy the new parts. Fix the quad, because I wouldn't want to mess up my new quad HOPEING the dealer will fix it. Then save the old parts and the receipt and hopefully get reimbursed someday down the road.
 Once it does finally break
1) You will be without a quad.

2) If they haven't made it a recall who knows how long it will take to get the OK to fix it for free

3) What if they don't cover all or any of it you will be without a lot more than what the cover cost

Do what you want. I'm just trying to help you out.

mother of god people, when and IF the clutch cover fails, replace it!

its that simple, iv never had a problem with mine, i think that might be because i changed the coolent within 2 months of buying it.

i think that its not as big of a deal as some people are making it to look

well if you break into the motor  your self with a  extended 5 year warranty then you void the warranty and if they don't  fix it  it will jsut  give me a reason to build a motor. and  the easiest way to fix it is just to change to  a coolant that want  harm the magnesium.

Correct Evans is the only coolant that doesn't contain water. Water is the problem. You must flush the cooling systen 3 times wil 50% vineger and 50% water. This is the most important step. The system must be COMPLETELY DR before you refill with evans coolant. I don't know how to do that other than compressed air and just leaving the system open for a few days. Good Luck

whene you take the old exhaust off you will have to remove a coolent line on the cylinder(instructions will say exactly were) so u will drain the coolent anyway. so u mite as well just take the water pump off and check it out while theres no coolent in the bike, i did when i put my pipe on and it was fine

those rims are amazing especially with those tires after i got them on and got on the track holy crap HUGE difference, and so far only problem i had with those rims was a screw up by ITP they forgot some silcone inside the rim and it was leaking air but we got that fixed up and havn't had any promblems i love them and i think they are like the only black, other than hipers, bead lock rims so they were totally worth it kinda on the expensive side tho...i paid 1000 for rims and tires premounted plus that was with a 20% discount but to me totally worth it.....haha thanks eric u always pull threw for me when i need help with my bike thanks bro!
