Ok, Im starting a new post with this because I need input from everyone and not just people who bear with it and read through 2 pages to get to the gist of everything, so here I go:

well, today i got the paper from the courthouse stating that they know the juvenille's were arrested and asked what i thought would be a fair punishment and if any harm was done to me or my bike.  I'm going to recommend that they serve 3 years probation, 100hrs of community service picking up trash at the HoleyLands, and a 6 month suspension on their license for almost running my friend over.

Please read the story about how they stole the bike and the chase and all and then let me know what you're punishment suggestions would be.  Keep in mind, they ARE under 18 so jailtime is out of hte question  Angry

I would say that would be fair punishment. If you be to hard on them then the judge will not take any of your advice.

I say one year community service and probation, to end at the same time.

That's 2080 hrs BTW.

I doubt they will get the 3years probation but maybe try 1 year probation and 200hrs service.

I would say probation for sure.  Meaning anything even as small as a parking ticket or unexcused absense from school for one year and the record follows them as an adult.  If they stay clear and clean it gets dropped at the end of the year and they get a clean slate.

I like the idea of community service and like the combined idea of cleaning one of our riding areas.

As for the driver.... I say he loses his license till he's 21.   And all of them have to go through some sort of educational classes on the impact of their actions on the community.  As well as driving school showing what could have happened had this gone bad.  Let them know they could have killed someone.

The laws and punishment given doesn't work, not enough deterrent to crime.

I still say if they would lose a finger each time they are caught, wouldn't take long for them to quit.

Mexico?  No the Iraqi front.

Have them out there in front looking for land mines. After they find 3, they can go home.  Wink

After they detonate 3 they can go home. Also, make sure they are in the units that are having trouble getting body armour. ok ok, that might be a little harsh but you should never steal a mans atv.

I agree, probation is a must, and so is community service.
The driver that nearly ran you r buddy over should be sent to a driving school, and both should have their license suspended, that would keep them from being on "the prowel " looking for something to steal.

The management of this can't  express their true feelings.  Wink

The management ?

We all volunteer,

MrBones is the ONLY management.

I think we all feel the same way about thieves, we just decide to express ourselves differently.

Back to realty,

As for the driver.... I say he loses his license till he's 21, from QT.

I think both should lose their license until 21. This would hurt them more than anything else.

Where do the parents of these kids fit into this?  Are they helping discipline their kids or are they part of the problem here?  If I were the parents, I would be worried about a civil lawsuit here.

you have to think what the punishment would be ,had the bike not been recoverd.you would be out 5-8thou .whats that worth in punishment.I say 3 years probation and 650 hrs community service.value the hours at 10$ each and they could experiance about the amount of money loss you would have had the bike not been recoverd.6500$$ Angry

I LOVE that idea!!!! thats a GREAT point that I can make to teh judge in my letter!!!!  so here's what i'm going to recommend so far:

3 years probation
650 CS hours cleaning our riding areas (holey lands)
and no license until they're 21.

I'll be sure to mention that they were doing 90+ mph on a public road with people traveling and a heavy object in the bed of their truck.  I'll also mention they tried to flagrantly run me over a 50+ mph because i tried to block the roadway.

With their current choice in career path they'll be making minimum wage.  I say they work of the money at minimum wage salary.  Ten an hour would be the easy way out.
