WPSA Powersports ATV Championship Tour confirms Florida and Indiana dates as 2006 championship schedule nears completion

by Justin Anderson

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. -- The WPSA PowerSports ATV Championship Tour has confirmed two more venues for its 2006 schedule. Events at Blue Rock Raceway in Parry, Fla. And Wild Cat Creek MX in Rossville, Ind. bring the total number of confirmed venues to six with nine races on tap. A 10th and final event, which is expected to take place in August, is currently being negotiated and will be announced soon.

All 10 races will be telecast on ESPN2 in midday, one-hour, weekend timeslots. The television schedule represents a first for ATV racing, and follows a successful run of Snowmobile Championship Tour television events. Television shows begin airing on June 3 and will run through Sept. 10.

The Florida event, scheduled for June 24-25, is among three double Championship weekends, joining the season opener at Daniel Boone MX in London, Ky. (May 20-21) and Echeconnee Off Road Park in Echeconnee, Ga. (June 3-4). The newly confirmed Indiana event is scheduled for July 22-23.

“These two dates add to an already diverse and exciting 2006 Championship schedule,” said PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy. “Not only do these venues offer geographic diversity near important ATV markets, but they also allow us to feature new and different venues to our television audience. Meanwhile, we hope to capitalize on the strong group of ATV riders in each of these markets.

“The final date, which remains in negotiation, should represent an appealing move forward in the sport of ATV racing,” added Murphy. “Suffice it to say, it will be a world class event.”

The Tour will operate two racing series at each venue this season: the “QuadMX Series” and the “QuadTerrain Challenge Series.” QuadMX will consist of professional and pro-am sport MX racing on pro-style, big-air MX racing circuits. The QuadTerrain Challenge comprises professional and pro-am sport utility racing on purpose-built all-terrain racing circuits. ATVs allowed to compete will include stock, near-stock utility-type, and modified.

The Tour recently released its 2006 rulebook and supplementary regulations. Among the many changes in the rulebook are the addition of Manufacturers’ and Rookie of Year Championships in the Tour’s Pro classes. The Tour will also award a Riders’ Championship in all of its classes.

The schedule is available at www.PowerSportsTour.com.
