Hey guys, some of you know this past weekend I broke my thumb. I went to get X-rays yesterday and then today went to the doctor. It isnt good. 40* angle off my hand with the bone seperated from the hand. I am going in for surgery tomorrow morning to get it straightend and then pins will be put in to hold it in place because of the location.

From the way the break looks, they said I should be in alot of pain as I am right now, but here I am able to type this out without any hesitation.

So tomorrow, I will be going under the knife and they will be using anestetics (sp?) . Its my first time having surgery and im just a bit shooken up and dont know what to think about it other than its for a good reason.

Any prayers, thoughts or comments would be great.

Thank you.

I will send a prayer your way. Dont worry the surgery isnt bad, I had a plate put in my leg. It hurts for a while and then later when the weather changes but you will get used to it.

Fred, don't worry too much.  Doctors really do know what they are doing most of the time.  Surgery doesn't hurt, rehab does!  I had 3 operations on my hand after I cased a jump at Hardrock and it is all better now.  Plus the drugs are really good!  Good luck, Mike

Tell them you are really really vervous. They will give you some valume the day of the surgery and when you go in you will feel right. Then they give you an i.v. and you fall asleep about 10 seconds later. you wake up, hopefully not puking, probably feeling a little nauseous and your thumb throbbing like a mo-fo. Get the hot nurse to give you a pain shot in the rear and go back to sleep for a while. repeat as needed. good luck.

Fred,

I am sorry to hear you need surgery  Undecided

They will give you something by IV before you go into surgery - so you will be relaxed. They had to give me 2 doses - LoL!! You will wake up as if nothing ever happened...you will most likely feel like sleeping the rest of the day (take it as time to relax)  Wink

I will keep you in my prayers...let your thumb heal - try not to push it to hard - I look forward to seeing ya at the races in the future!!

You'll be fine, Fred. Which thumb? R/L? Just take it slow and don't try to rush the rehab or you'll be sorry  Cry   It's the down time that will hurt you the most as I know you love to ride.  Tongue
Eat right to help heal faster. As for the future, Pledger has a bionic arm. Now you will have a bionic thumb.  Wink

It won't be as bad as you think.  The worst part is them putting in the IV and that's not bad at all.  They will wheel you into the room and next thing ya know is your waking up and it's all done.  Good luck

Just take it slowly, and you will be fine !!! The rehab will probably hurt more than the actual surgery. Mine did anyway.
They put a nerve Block in through my arm pit, which was really weird, but hey, whatever works, and it does !!

GOOD luck, take your time, you will be fine !!!!   Oh, thoughts and prayers also Wink

that makes two of us i have a broken ankle, and when you go into surgery just do what i did when i had surgery, just go in there and relax, do think of it, and if they put u under the sleepy stuff its even better u won't feel a thing but after that u will be a little sore. so just wanted to say good luck with the surgery and heal up quick, i am also trying to cut my cast off to go riding, but get this i asked my doctor if i could go riding and he said it will even better if u go ride with the cast because atleast i don't have to worry about u hurting your ankle, great doctor but my ankle doesn't hurt so i don't know if i should cut the cast off or not? but any way Feel Better soon!!!!!!!!!!!

Prayers for you svtbolt04,,

I had my wrist cut on when I broke it. The worst part was the pins. Mine (the pins) were left exposed. They stuck out the side of my hand and also the cast. The Dr. made a real nice removable metal cover over the pins. "LEAVE THE COVER IN PLACE" I took the cover off and promptly bumped those pins on the table not even 10 minutes later............*@#$&@$%!!!!!!!!!

Everything healed up just fine.

Leave it there or you could be facing bigger problems. Learn to ride with it in place.
