I think it is time for a restriction on WHAT we allow to ride out at the Holey Lands.  We now have 3 SERIOUS accidents at the Holey Lands (that I can think of) and all three involved sport quads.  So my suggestion:  Ban them from this location.  Before you jump down my throat, here is why:

The Holey Lands has nothing to offer for these bikes.  The levee's have a 25mph speed limit, there are no jumps for them, no tracks to "race on", and really, no place for them to ride the way they want to ride.  For those of you that are fuming right now because of what I'm saying, think to yourself: "When I'm out at the Holey Lands, do I stay under 25mph?  Do I operate my vehicle in a safe manner? (No wheelies, donuts, jumping, speeding, etc?)  Have I ever fish tailed and accidentally sprayed a tow vehicle or another person?  Have I ever flown down a levee by a group of 4x4's and sprayed rocks and dirt and dust in their face?

The laws at the Holey Lands are POORLY enforced at best.  Hell, my bike was stolen and the thief got caught out there but didn't "get CAUGHT" beacuse FWC didn't run the serial #'s on the bike!!!  Thank God for the investigator I spoke with that redeemed FWC's good name by being so helpful to me.

Why are sport bikes out there?? WHY??  There are tracks nearby...GO THERE.  The Holey Lands is a place for utilities.  Because of the obnoxious behavior of many sport quads in the staging area, buggy and airboat owners HATE us.  Now, I'm not saying that utility owners can't be assholes too, but the number of them are far fewer than the other side.  This lack of population would allow FWC to focus their enforcement efforts to the few outlaw utility owners.

So before FWC decides to take away the Holey Lands (one of the LAST South Florida riding spots [legal]), lets DO SOMETHING about it!

Now, I'm sorry, I know not all sport quad owners are assholes, but I still firmly believe, as respectful as you may be, you have no business out there.

You can't ban someone because they have a sport quad. The guy that just died jumping the road { Ryan} he was driving a honda rincon. That's not a sport quad. People need to just act responsibly when they are riding. It is going to be hard to control because alot of people think nothing is going to happen to them. I mean, when you are done with your beer and you just throw it on the ground or in the bushes. And then the next guy does it . Who do you guys think is going to pick that bottle up? Then you go out there and there is beer bottles everywhere and trash around, the place looks like $hit. That is what make these eviromentalist mad, you guys are destroying the place. Take your $hit with you when you leave, that would be a big help also.

and with that said i say We ban sports car from the highways and streets,Heres why theres Speed limits on the road of 35 mph,No track for them to "Race on"They Blow By me everyday in a "Unsafe" manner,Splashing Water  on my truck on rainy Days,They spin tires and rev their motors
I Beleave they have no business on the streets......

Sounds a little moronick"sp?" Right?

Maybe i should post about how a Ute needs to stay on the farm and do what it was origanaly built for....
But thats not WHY WE are HERE,We're suppost to be here to support each other as a whole,Not try and Divide into Groups
Dont know if you've noticed it or not but where the State,County,or City has a meet about closing another riding spot  and it passes like normal It Doesnt Say Closed To SPORT QUADS or Closed to UTE Quads IT SAYS CLOSED TO ALL ATV'S

Everyone Wrecks and Everyone Gets hurt it doesnt matter if your on a sport or ute It happens everyday  And Will Continue to happen

The number of offenders in each group is about equal. The guy who said we need to stick together is right. However, I do agree that sport riders are getting alot of bad rap because ya'll have alot of bad riders.
While in Ocala recently I saw a big group of sporties had a complete disregard for the rules or for the safety of the people around them, but I have also seen this type of behavior from the ute ridin redneck's out in the swamp.

If you ban the sport atv's thats discrimination. I'm sure they will get you for that.

Maybe the thing to do, is talk to someone at the Holy Lands, and see if you can provide a track of some sort out of the way, for them to do there thing. They have a right to ride to. Find a solution so everyone can enjoy the land. That's what this is about, not you, not me, but everyone and finding a solution.

The motorcyclist doesn't like the ATV's, but they are not banned from alot of the racing.

First of all, comparing four-wheelers to sports cars/trucks is absurd.  Cars have regulations, much stricter enforcement, and much harsher ramifications and requirements to be on the road.  Each car as to pass DOT inspections and requirements to qualify to be on the road.  Cars are a means of TRANSPORTATION, not RECREATION.  That comparison is totally irrelevant.

As for the discrimination:  It isn't.  Why are three-wheelers not allowed at just about every mud bog?? Thats discrimination!!  Why though?  Because they are UNSAFE in those conditions.  Same for sport quads out at the holeylands.  The only legitimate place for them to ride is used by everyone to load/unload bikes and travel to and from riding locations.

Sure we need to stick together on CERTAIN issues, but obviously the sport quad community could give two shits about us, otherwise they wouldn't be disrespecting one of our last legal spots and acting like complete bozo's out there.

And it just about EVERY SINGLE SPORT QUAD rider out there.  There are exceptions but they are extremely limited.  You can cry foul and say you are an exception until you're blue in the face but guess what? I can bet money that I'll see you out there hot-doggin in your little pocket rocket in a few weeks when all this accident crap is buried and forgotten about.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me WHY SPORT QUADS ride the holey lands. I've ridden with a few out there before and they actually tried to go swamp with their bikes.  I ended up draggin one back home (the whole way) and the other time I had to ride behind the guy the whole way because he kept getting stuck.

Seminole is almost the same distance from anywhere in broward or miami dade...go ride there instead of the holey lands.

Yeah! Let's ban 'em. They're probably harboring Al Qaeda and hiding WMDs in those loud pipes, anyways! But, only ban everyone except my son who -rideshis Raptor 350 with me @ Holeyland and the guys I rode with 2 weeks ago, who rode more-responsibly than many Ute riders I've seen.

Lmao, now thats good Smiley

Seriously though, to single out sport quads is pretty rediculous. I've seen 4x4 riders tear up just as much stuff and act just as dumb. Irresponisble riders are everywhere incase you havent noticed, and ride everything from 4x4's to dirtbikes. And to say that all sport riders need to be on a track is a load of crap. 75% of sport quad owners ride trails, not tracks. I can sit here and list a few 4x4 sterotypes as well, with pleanty of reasons why 4x4 riders shouldnt be allowed on the trails, but again, its not the 4x4, its the RIDER. And I dont see the majority of people acting responsibly anytime soon, so why dont we just end it all now and let Florida continue doing what they are doing and just make ATV riding completely illegal. That way, we wont have to deal with some sport quad riders thinking they are badazz, showing off and getting hurt, and we wont have to deal with some 4x4 riders haulin in more beer and trash into the trails then they are willing to take out... problem solved, lmao (Sounds rediculous doesnt it???)

Why not shut it down all together?  That way no one will get hurt or do doughnuts or spray cars in the parking area.   If I'm not mistaken utes can do all these things.   I don't know what the answer to the problem is but I know that banning certain types of bikes is NOT it.  That will just open the door to banning ALL bikes.

Accidents are going to happen regardless of which bike is out there. That is the nature of the beast. There will always be accidents with ATV's out at Holeyland. Enforcement of the posted speedlimit will help.

THERE IS NO REASON WHY SPORT QUADS SHOULD BE SINGLED OUT FOR BEING MORONIC RIDERS. ITS NOT EVERYONE THAT RIDES A SPORT QUAD THAT RIDES LIKE AN IDIOT. BUT YOU DO GET ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT JUMP ON A SPORT QUAD AND DO STUPID THINGS THAT GIVES US A BAD NAME. BUT TO SINGLE THEM OUT AND BAN THEM FROM SOMEWHERE TO RIDE IS CRAZY. SOME ONE CAN JUST AS WELL GET ON A UTILITY BIKE AND DO THE SAME STUPID STUNTS AND IDIOTIC RIDDING AND CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. ITS NOT THE SPORT BIKES. ITS THE POPLE THAT HAVE BAD JUDGMENT. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN OUT THERE A FEW TIMES AND MY UNCLE DIED FROM AN ACCIDENT OUT THERE 2 YEARS AGO. I CAN GO THERE AND GO BY ALL THE LAWS AND STIL HAVE A GOOD TIME. AND ACTUALLY SOME SPORT RIDERS DO LIKE TO GO THROUGH THE TRAILS AND GET MUDDY. ITS ALL PART OF THE SPORT. BUT FOR SOMEONE TO SINGLE OUT JUST SPORT QUADS IS CRAZY. THE BEST THING TO DO IS JUST HAVE FWC WATCHING CLOSELY AND WRITTING TICKETS. POEPLE WILL LEARN. THEM TICKETS WILL ADD UP. AND YOUR MORE THEN WELCOME TO WATCH ME RIDE THERE AT THE END OF MARCH FOR MY UNCLE IF YOU WANT. YOULL SEE THAT ITS NOT ALL THE SPORT QUADS ITS JUST THE POOR JUDGMENT OF SOME PEOPLE.

As most of you can see, this guy is selfish and is only thinking of himself. Regardless of what kind of bike it is, they all have 4 wheels and were bought w/ one thing in mind... that's to enjoy our bikes and ride them. I see Ute's up at Big Scrub all the time mudding when they tell you to stay out of the wetlands, I have seen guys on Ute's riding and drinking, and I have also seen guys on Ute's acting responsible and being respectful. The bike doesn't determine if your a moron or not. Just like your bike doesn't have anything to do w/ you whining  Give Hell

Hey now, I do both, ride at l-cross where theres not much for a sport quad and do trails and open places. My friends have half and half, sports and utility bikes. We all like to ride todether so we switch off. I don't mind going mudding for a day and they don't mind coming out to the trails and trying to keep up. What should I tell my friends hey we can't ride together because your bike isnt as fast?
It's stupid to try to seperate it, everyone likes to ride and there will always be accidents. At least when my bike rolls over me I can get it off me unlike a grizzly or big utility.

the answer is enforcement. start ticketing their @ss and see what happens.

i ride sport and yes holeylands isnt a sport bike riding area but i still should have the right to go if one day i choose too.

there are idiots everywhere that ride everything.

again the answer is enforcement.

The bottom of what!Enough Bullsh*t... LETS RIDE!

Skyhigh your funny Wink

You guys kill me alot of wind comes out of the keyboard  & yall divided.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THEY ARE ALL ATV'S! Banning one type for some reasons & the other for others is totally STUPID!

We need places to ride period. If we cant come together than why do folks like myself waste there time trying to get everyone rallied together?

http://www.atvflorida.com/forum/index.php/topic,11717.0.html
Only 17 lousy replies...most by me.I cant believe the bickering between all of you, reads like a bunch of whining high school kids.Yes there are good points here but.....You all deserve to lose all the riding areas.Fighting amongst yourselves is a total disregard for this sport. The places to ride locally are slimming way down.If it happens you deserve it.I can load my sh*t up & go anywhere can most of you?

Bottom line is resposibility! Educate your friends & be courteous.A Ute may need to pull a sport out that is stuck as *uck one day in the mud Shocked . A sport may need to race & get help when the quicksand swallowed up the ute  Wink

Lets try to remember there was a man that died, wrong or right he died.It could of been any one of us loading or unloading a bike without a helmut & falling off cracking noggin on a rock! Sound funny & stupid, ever see size of those trucks that the ATV's are backing out of?

UNITE we are ONE sport.Divide & yall can follow me & ride in TN!

No one here has the authority to ban anything. And I believe the only reason atv's are allow out there is to allow access for people to get out there on the land to hunt. It was never supposed to be a big atv park for everyone to tear up. If anything happens it will be that they will ban us all together.
Believe me they won't single out any group. They will ban it completely. As soon as someone comes out there that has the authority and it won't be the rangers {they just do their jobs  like they are supposed  to do} and they see the mayhem out there and all that trash. They are going to say wtf we got to stop this right now. Throwing trash and bottles on the ground is the most disrespectful thing you can do to the place. It tells everyone you do not care about the place you ride and it is there for your abuse. It is not there for your abuse and disrespect!

Why should sport bikes be banned? If you're saying sport bikes need to run off to the track, then why don't you take your ute back to where it should be, on a farm or sumthin'. Speaking of which, you shouldn't have a say since you don't even have a sport bike. And besides, my recon ute can spray more dirt and keep right up with my buddy with his Z-250. Saying a sport will always go faster and be crazier then utes is non sense. What we really need out there is damn COMMON SENSE.

i race sport bikes and we have just as much right to ride in areas that utes ride in! this sounds like some Stereotyping going on here!

they race utes at dade city! since i have to wait for them to get done racing so i can! i think they should be banned from the track because they are slow and i have to wait! so how about that! is that fair? NOT!!!!!! if you have 4wheels it should not matter what kind of bike you ride! you have as much right as the next person who rides a 4wheeler!

that makes NO sence to ban sports bikes!!!!  We all have them and they r suited for the mud and track racing if we choose to do that.  Its the rider not the bike.  My 10 year old son 12 yr old nephew have blasters and we r always at the holy lands . there is a total of 11 of us with sports bikes as lonag as u r not an IDIOT u can ride whatever u want.  IT ALL ABOUT COMMON SENCE!!!!!

This is another good one. What happened years ago out in the Big Cypress National Forest was I believe the way they banned certain types of rides was by the wheel base length. So, the atv's, jeeps, and trucks were forced out, which left Full Track, Half Track and Authorized vehicles only. Its only a matter of time my friends. You can start saying goodbye to the Holey Lands soon. I will bet money on it. And that means all ATV's. They may make exceptions for Bow and Gun season for hunters only, but I doubt it. Lets Roll!

More than likely they will do like J.W. Corbett managment area in West Palm... Change the wheelbase rules to allow trucks and buggies, but not atv's..... I'd hate to see it, but I'll bet it is going to happen. The state doesn't want atv's out there anyway. All it's going to take is a few of these accidents and it will be gone. Just a sad fact..

This was a very disapointing thing to read on this website. I'm a 36 yr. old father of 3 and I ride a sport bike and would never sling rocks on someones vehicle or ride in a way to endanger anyone (unless we are racing and they dont get out of my way).
If I were guessing I would bet that there are more accidents involving Utes. These are the ones riding around with their beer coolers  with no safty gear.
From what I've heard though I would never ride there with my sport bike because it sounds boring. It sounds like a place for my Rhino.
