I would say its the other way around. People are running ATVs out of the state. Why do they have to move down to Fla. and try to change everything?  We dont care how you did it up north.

Its funny that up north they actually let you ride into town, drive tractors from field to field even if it means going 5mph down main street..

They wont get it unless they have the same Fox channel broadcasters. If you live further than everglades city or further than PC, then you wont get it.

seen the news, one sided as usual.  It was about the Yucapan.  People leaving trash, burnt cars, and shooting.  They interviewed one guy who wanted to move because of the shooting, the only reason this guy wants to move is because he can get 4 times what he paid and he needed an excuse.  The ATVers they did interview was a family from Northport so they didn't say much.

the newscaster also screwed up and said that as long as you have a valid drivers license, a registered atv, insurance, and approved lighting you can ride on the streets.

I guess he got a couple of calls from law inforcement to correct him during the break because he said he screwed up, you can't ride on the street at all.

To say the least it fired me up a little.  I wrote an email to FOX 4 news mentioning some points for our side and about OHV riding areas.  Maybe it will help to get us notice and get some wheels turning.  Will see....  Here's the email.

This may or may not be your story, if not please forward to the FOX 4 investigator that wrote about it.

The story was pretty one sided.  You talk to one guy (Mr. Indllicati) who wants to move because of shooting.  It’s not the atvs shooting at people its people with guns shooting at people.  Maybe the real reason Mr. Indllicati wants to move is he can get 4 times as much for his house then what he built it for 8 years ago.  That’s if he really owns this property, he’s not listed in the property appraiser as owning any land.  Some things that we would like to see done is to just regulate this land; put time restrictions, boundaries, parking areas with trash bens, helmets & protection, or even seasons per flood conditions.  Not just take the area away.  Most people that go out there are families trying to have a get-together, to do something as a family, just like the ones you interviewed (which weren’t even locals I might add).  ATVers didn’t tow that car out there and burn it, scummy people stole it and did that, and it not just in the Yucapan it’s everywhere, Lehigh, Bonita, Estero … the list goes on.  ATVers are responsible for SOME of the trash but not all.  This has always been a party area, which is why restrictions need to be made not banning.

Like I said, this story was totally one sided.  There are plenty of ATV owners out there to speak on this subject, just go to atvflorida.com.  A lot of these people are business people, doctors, lawyers, owners… etc. that would be more than willing to give you their side of this story.  All ATVers or offroaders are not bad people, but I admit there are some bad seeds that spoil the apple.

Just restrict the area do not take away totally.  Earlier in your news cast you brought up how dangerous State Road 80 was, how speeding and people not paying attention kills people.  I don’t see anybody banning the use of this road.  They put up restrictions; lights, warning, speed limits...  Please just give us a chance, there are good people who own ATVs out there.

The state promised land for OHV use.  They promised around 650 acres in Naples after they closed down the riding down there.  The State is also acquiring 74,000 acres from the Babcock ranch.  I’m not saying give us 74,000 acres of riding land, just a couple.  Enough land use for families to be families, which you don’t see much of anymore.  Maybe money is the answer.  croom is a nice area in the middle of the state for OHV use in which people are charged 50 dollars a year to ride and they have a great time.  All we ask for is more areas like this that where supposed to be put aside for recreation activities, Naples & Big Cypress are two that come to mind.

Please do a little more investigating.

Thanks,

John

Babcock ranch in between lee county and charlotte county, the name got screwed up when I was copying and pasting.  A developer bought it, it was 91,000 acres, he is developing 17,000 of it and selling the rest to the state.  The state wants to preserve the wilderness part of it, but there are still thousands of acres of cow pastures.  Been all over the news in Lee county, but most of the property is in Charlotte county

Here's the short version from Fox4Florida.com

ATV Onslaught

(Cape Coral, FL) -- All terrain vehicles are becoming as much of a fixture on the Florida scene as flamingos, dolphins, and manatees. The people who live where ATVers play see the onslaught as an ugly, noisy, destructive, and even dangerous invasion. Cape Coral resident Givovanni Indllicati is moving out after eight years because he doesn't want to deal with certain ATVers firing at people in his neighborhood. A FOX4 News investigation found the county and private land has broken beer bottles, abandoned burnt up cars, and trash as far as the eye can see. The Lee County Sheriff's office tells FOX4 that they've stepped up patrols in that area.

It only works if 100000000000 ATVers tie up all the darn NEWS e-mails with phone calls and tactful leters. Below I sent to Palm Beach post after a negative article.

Hello Mitra Malek, Another article to help put a nail in the coffin for legitimate ATV riders who ride as a family and are responsible and courteous to others. We moved out to the acerage for the rural life 6 months ago from Lake Worth, away from traffic & crime. Now with the Gallery Judge orange groves up for sale it is even going to pack more of these zero-lot line houses up in what is supposed to be a rurual area! I purchased ATV's for my family to ride around our area.We even needed to purchase a vehicle registration from which the proceeds were supposed to go toward opening more public land for ATV enthusiasts.Did you ever consider writing an article how these ATV's are oversold with no new public land opening for riding. It is not fair for those of us who want to pursue this as a family recreation.Milions are spent to build golf courses, tennis centers, and other public recreation areas why not the same for a 10-20 acre ATV park? Legitimate riders would love to have a place to go without worrying about trespass & tickets! I would even pay a fee to ride there with my family.Check the numbers of the ATV's purchased and where is the money going around $32 per ATV to register it?Something not right there.

Best Regard'sWerner

BEST OF ALL HER RESPONSE!

Not a bad idea -- will put it on my list.
Drop another note and bug me if you don't hear back from me in a few weeks ....

Definately send her an email once a week asking how her research is coming, lol. Sending emails to our local news reports will probably be the best thing to do. They can inform  A LOT more people then we can, seeing that this website doesnt do as much as it could/should. It's going to take a lot more then just this website to get anything changed. Nice E-mail by the way, very well written Smiley
