I stopped by  Suzuki of Sarasota today and they had a new 450 in the showroom. It is a sweet machine. It felt really comfortable and it is low and wide.
They said it was the 2nd one that they got in and it was sold.

ya those things r lookin pretty good. Give it a couple of years for them to fix any mistakes the original ones might have and and it will be really good.

When the 06 YFZ came out, I was first in line with 100 bucks, skipped work and went to put down a deposite.

As for the bugs, why wait? Most of the stuff will be caused by FACTORY and would either be fixed for free, or replaced. The only thing I would do is give it 6 months to see if other riders with the same bike are having problems. If no major problems in 6 months,I would say go for it.

For what it's worth.........My good friends brother ordered one from there and just received it this week. They took it out and compared it to my friends STOCK '03 Suzuki 400. They ran side by side, neither pulling on the other. They even switched bikes. The ride and suspension is where the big difference is though. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to make the 450 fly with some tweaks in the mapping, and cheap mods.  They're sweet looking for sure.....but this particular one is no faster than a stock 400.

Go figure   Shocked

I'm not dissing the machine at all....just relaying first hand knowledge of this particular one. Have you seen one race beside another bike?  I can set up a time and place for you to see it in person next weekend. We'll all be riding.....check for yourself, and then you can come back here and post your apology!  Grin

Well that makes sense now. I figured there had to be something restricting it's performance. He had just picked it up and within 2 hours it was tested against the 400.

Well, your "I doubt that severly" comment came across as I was lying. But since we cleared that up.....Yea we were all very confused too, it just didn't make sense. But the post by LT-R450ApK sheds some light on why it happened that way. I imagine there are other things to "FIX" on it before the full potential is seen on this bad boy.  It is sweet!

I would agree. I have a few rides on a 450 and in stock trim it is not too much faster than a 400 with a few mods. It will pull away on top gear rolls.
But, this 450 was just out of the box and we did not want to beat on it yet. I suspect it is a sleeping dragon. Let the mods start.....

We removed the airbox lid this weekend. That's unreal how they only have those 2 little 3/4" holes for the air to enter the airbox. We did not see a baffle though. Where is it at? Just taking the lid off made a huge difference......nice sound too.

Thanks for the tip!

The baffle is in the exhaust. The exhaust is severely restricted the way it comes from the factory in order to pass emissions requirements.

Suzuki definitely intended for you to remove that little peashooter baffle-
it comes right out after removing the tailight heat guard and taking out the 3 screws from the exhaust.

There is also a $40 item made by Yoshimura for the LTR called the cherrybomb-installation takes 1 minute. You can get it from Yoshi or your dealer.

Those few little mods, (airbox lid off, peashooter baffle removed, and cherrybomb installed), make a HUGE difference!

ENJOY!
